Paediatric Occupational Therapy
Children are not something that needs to be moulded,
but rather people that needs to be unfolded – Jess Lair
Welcome
Just like a tree begins with a seed and grows over time with care and attention, we help children develop the skills they need to thrive. Whether your child is facing sensory challenges, developmental delays, or other obstacles, we’re here to provide the support they need to grow at their own pace. Through a fun, play-based approach, we focus on building confidence and helping children master everyday tasks, creating a strong foundation for long-term success. We believe every child has the potential to grow and flourish, with the right guidance along the way.

What do we offer?
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) is about helping children do the things they want and need to do—whether it’s playing with friends, completing schoolwork, or simply getting dressed in the morning. For children with sensory processing issues or developmental delays, OT is key in supporting their growth and development.
Sensory Integration Therapy is an important part of what we do. It helps kids make sense of the sensory information they’re receiving from their environment (things like touch, movement, sound, and sight). When a child has difficulty processing this sensory input, it can affect their behaviour, attention, and ability to participate in daily activities. Our goal is to help your child better process sensory information so they can manage their reactions, feel more comfortable, and engage with the world around them.
In OT, we use fun, hands-on activities that target skills like coordination, motor planning, attention, and emotional regulation. Every session is designed with your child’s needs in mind, making sure they’re engaged and supported in a way that works for them.

Who am I ?
Hi my name is Elrika Beukes, I am an occupational therapist who finished my studies in 2011 at the University of Pretoria, did my community service in Sabie, Mpumalanga in 2012 and started Big Tree Therapy in 2015. I got married to my best friend in 2016. In 2017 I completed my Ayres Sensory Integration Qualification and obtained my Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2018. In November of 2018 I became a mother for the first time. In 2020, admits the craziness that happened in that year, I became a mother for the second time and moved Big Tree Therapy to Queenswood in October of 2020. In October 2024 we were blessed and privileged to moved into Big Tree Therapy’s brand new studios.
Big Tree Therapy is more than just a practice to me – it’s a place where children learn to overcome challenges, celebrate their unique strengths, and grow confidently.
